Scholarships

2008 – 2009 SCHOLARSHIPS (CHICAGO CAMPUS)

  • New student scholarships are reserved for full-time students who have applied for admissions for fall 2008.
  • Current student scholarships are reserved for current full-time Adler School students at the Chicago campus who have completed at least one full term by the scholarship application deadline.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 in graduate and undergraduate coursework at the time of application.
  • Scholarships are disbursed toward tuition and fees over two terms. For example, a $5,000 scholarship would disburse $2,500 in the fall term and $2,500 in the spring term.
  • Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to maintain eligibility for subsequent allocations of their awards.
  • New students who defer admission from the original term of acceptance will need to reapply for scholarship awards.
  • Need-based scholarships are reserved solely for U.S. citizens who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Scholarship recipients may be required to attend a scholarship reception.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

To apply for one or more Adler School scholarships, students must meet the above general scholarship criteria and submit a written statement supporting each scholarship they are applying for. The statement should be typed and no more than 500 words in length. Students must complete an Adler School scholarship application for each scholarship for which they are applying; attach all required documentation and forward completed applications to: Scholarship Committee, Adler School of Professional Psychology, 65 E. Wacker Place, Suite 2100, Chicago, IL 60601.

RETURNING SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP

New incoming U.S. students for all programs are eligible to apply. Returning scholars are classified as any new students over the age of 35 who have been out of college for at least five years. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on several criteria and are required to submit a 250-500 word written statement which discusses the applicant's knowledge gained through life experiences related to interests, career paths, family commitments and/or other responsibilities which have influenced their current educational goals and objectives. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on financial need and merit. Required materials: scholarship application, written statement, resume or curriculum vitae, and submission of FAFSA.

  • Amount: $5,000 (1 award per year)

SOCIAL JUSTICE SCHOLARSHIP

New incoming U.S. students for all programs are eligible to apply. Scholarship recipients are selected based on a 250-500 word written statement demonstrating either a history of providing community service or an articulated plan to design and implement effective and innovative solutions to a significant social problem. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on financial need and merit. Required materials: scholarship application, written statement, resume or curriculum vitae, and submission of FAFSA.

  • Amount: $5,000 (9 awards per year)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

New incoming and current Adler School international students for all programs are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to candidates from countries that expand the international representation within the Adler School student community and demonstrate a commitment to the Adlerian values of social interest and compassion. Applicants must provide a 250-500 word essay with an articulated plan to improve their local or international communities. Required materials: scholarship application, written statement, and resume or curriculum vitae.

  • Amount: $5,000 (4 awards per year)

ADLER SCHOOL DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

New incoming U.S. students for all programs are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a 250-500 word written statement that discusses the applicant's experiences with and commitment to diversity and how it relates to their interest in psychology. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on financial need and merit. Required materials: scholarship application, written statement, resume or curriculum vitae, and FAFSA.

  • Amount: $5,000 (6 awards per year)

ALFRED ADLER SCHOLARSHIP

Current U.S. Adler School students in all programs who have completed at least one semester are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a written statement exhibiting commitment to the Adlerian value of 'social interest' through either a history of or an articulated plan to provide service to their local and greater community. Priority is given to applicants who are committed to working with underserved or marginalized populations. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on financial need. In addition to the scholarship application, students must submit a letter of recommendation from an external agency or community member describing their service commitment and the impact their work has had or may have upon others. Required materials: scholarship application, written statement, recommendation letter, and submission of FAFSA.

  • Amount: $5,000 (6 awards per year)

SEYMOUR SCHNEIDER SCHOLARSHIP

New incoming students in all programs are eligible to apply for this scholarship. This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Seymour Schneider, who taught at the Adler School until his death in 1996. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a 250-500 word written statement that discusses why Adlerian training is important to them and their interest in actively applying Adlerian principles to real social issues and problems. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on financial need and merit. Required materials: scholarship application, written statement, and submission of FAFSA.

  • Amount: $5,000 (1 award per year)

SADIE "TEE" DREIKURS ART THERAPY SCHOLARSHIP

Current Adler School students pursuing a M.A. or certificate in Art Therapy are eligible to apply. This scholarship is in memory of Ms. Dreikurs, who established art therapy training at Adler School and taught until her death in 1996. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a 250-500 word written statement that discusses why they chose the field of art therapy and how the training received relates to their future goals. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on financial need and merit. Required materials: scholarship application, written statement, resume or curriculum vitae, and submission of FAFSA.
